Out with the old and in with the new for this Bournville family

Published - 03 Aug 2016
Home improvements are very popular among British homeowners as families desire an updated, modern interior while maintaining the beauty and authenticity of their traditional facades. Such was the case for family from Bournville, Birmingham. Residing in a luxurious four bedroom house, the family were looking to modernise their interior and create a striking, comfortable aesthetic that also offered a functional living environment.

A small model village on the south side of Birmingham, Bournville is known for its quaint housing and signature turn-of-the-20th-century style architecture that was introduced when the famous Cadbury chocolate family began building establishments in the neighbourhood. With a traditional brickwork exterior and a Victorian-inspired facade, the homeowners of this particular estate desired a minimal, functional interior that also had a sense of luxury. A key feature of the home which the Bournville family wanted to update was the outdated wardrobes and corresponding cabinetry. In order to achieve this, they called upon Sliding Wardrobes World to install brand new, high quality fitted wardrobes and a custom sliding wardrobe door with tinted, frosted glass. In pursuit of clean, seamless finishes and grand design, the wardrobes in three bedrooms were upgraded, as well as the installation of soft-close doors and drawers for extra storage. On top of this, and as a special request from the client, a custom frosted glass, handless door design was also installed in the home’s cinema room to store and hide all the AV equipment.

Asymmetric fitted wardrobes

Wardrobe doors are a necessity in a bedroom, unless you’re lucky enough to have the space for a walk-in robe. Instead of just having plain old, standard wardrobe doors, configuration can be manipulated to create a unique aesthetic. In the Bournville home, asymmetric, fitted wardrobes were chosen for their visual appeal and versatile functionality, while soft-close, handless door design created a seamless and sleek finish.

Soft close technology

Soft close technology is ideal for family homes, particularly when children are around and have a nasty habit of underestimating their strength. Soft close technology also protects your wardrobe doors and drawers from the damage that can be caused by constant slamming, and maintains the shine and aesthetic of its finish. It was for this reason that the family chose this added benefit.

Custom finishes

The finished look is what most people are concerned with. Yes, the functionality is extremely important but you’re going to have to look at your wardrobe doors every day, so it’s better that you like what you see! With a huge range of finishes available at Sliding Wardrobes World, the Bournville family chose a RAL 1013 Oyster white finish to maintain the modern aesthetic that they were trying to achieve. The matt finish is minimal but still offers a sense of luxuriousness due to its shiny qualities. Also utilising Sliding Wardrobes World’s frosted glass alternative in the cinema room, all the cords, wires and other unattractive bits and pieces are now stylishly hidden from view.

The Bournville family are incredibly happy with their new, modern home and have no doubt hosted several movie nights in that luxurious cinema room!
